The Covid-19 pandemic has created a difficult challenge for the Voluntariado Social of Alfas del Pi, reducing the possibilities to raise funds and increasing the number of people using the Food Bank. This is indicated in the 2020 activities report presented today at the Alfàs del Pi Town Hall, in a meeting in which the Mayor, Vicente Arques; the councillors of Social Welfare, Marisa Cortés and of Cooperation and Volunteering, Isabel Muñoz; the president of the Volunteering, Antonio Viso; the association’s treasurer, Joanna Wilson, and the entity’s secretary, Dolores Álvarez.
Despite the difficulties, thanks to the collaboration of the Alfasina society and the selfless work of the people who make up this association, the Voluntariado Social has managed to complete 2020, fulfilling its objectives.
The situation was alleviated, thanks to the collaboration of the Town Hall, who signed an addendum of 10,000 Euros to the 2020 agreement, and to donations from individuals, groups and companies, which gradually recovered.
The Food Bank of Alfas del Pi, presided by Antonio Viso, has managed to carry on without interruption, thanks to the bravery of those 44 volunteers and during 2020, more than 4,000 hours were given up, in the sorting classification and distribution of food and clothing. Unfortunately, our stand at the municipal market could only be open for 12 weeks.
The pandemic has lead to an increase in the number of families needing help, as well as an increase in donations, from a range of associations, businesses, schools, supermarkets, and residents from different countries, in all age groups. The Voluntariado Social sincerely thanks everyone who has donated.
